Multi-currency invoicing has two layers, most live today and a little still on the roadmap. Live today: each branch carries its own currency, every invoice is issued in the branch currency, the FX rate at issue is stamped on the invoice (currency_rate), all amounts use a precise money type, period-end FX revaluation of open foreign-currency balances posts a draft journal to the FX Gain/Loss accounts, and a dedicated Currency Rates screen holds rates with manual entry plus an on-demand “Refresh from feed” (exchangerate-api.com). Roadmap: automatic realized FX gain/loss at settlement time (when a payment lands at a different rate than the invoice was issued at), a scheduled daily feed writing straight into the rate table, and per-currency catalog price lists. This article describes both, what is live today and what is coming.

Why a foreign currency option#

Tourist patients on cosmetic packages want a price in their home currency.
Corporate accounts (multinational HR contracts) sometimes contract in USD or EUR.
Insurance settlements from non-AED insurers come in foreign currency.
Today the workaround is to issue in base currency and let the bank handle conversion at deposit time, which leaves the patient confused and the FX gain or loss invisible to the GL.

The operational shape#

Tenant setup#

Base currency is set once at clinic creation. It is the currency the GL is kept in. Usually AED for UAE clinics.
Enable any number of additional invoiceable currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, INR, SAR).
Pick an FX rate source: tenant-fixed (you maintain the rate manually) or live feed (a daily rate from a configured provider).

Creating a foreign-currency invoice#

Open Sales → + New sale.
Pick the invoice currency. The catalog prices convert at the captured FX rate, or you can override per line if you carry a price list per currency.
Add line items in the chosen currency. Totals and tax compute in the foreign currency.
The captured FX rate is stamped on the invoice. It does not change later.

Taking payment#

Cash in the foreign currency: posts to a foreign-currency cash account (if configured), revalued at the captured rate.
Card or link in the foreign currency: settles through Stripe (or the configured processor) and lands in the bank as base currency. The bank rate may differ from the captured rate. Posting the realized FX delta automatically at settlement is on the roadmap; today the variance is captured through period-end revaluation instead.
Mixed currencies on one invoice: not supported. One invoice, one currency.

GL posting#

Revenue, VAT, and AR post in the base currency, using the captured FX rate at issue.
The foreign amount stays on each journal line for the audit.
